FRENCH WIRE, Medium, .9mm 45", aka Gimp or Bullion, Silver, Copper, Bright Gold, 3 strands\ 45"

FRENCH WIRE -- sometimes called Gimp or Bullion, is the best and classiest way to attach a clasp, attach to a connector or ear wire. It also protects your thread and eliminates multiple passes. It is made in a very tightly wrapped spiral tube. It can be cut with regular scissors though not your best ones!

This little marvel is actually easy to use. About 1/4 to 1/3 inch or 6mm is sufficient to attach to a clasp, for example. You simply cut a small amount, thread it on to your needle, pass through a loop and back through a few beads or your work to finish. I suggest Medium if what you are attaching to has a loop 1.5mm or larger. If the loops are smaller go with Fine. Medium (.9mm) size works with most needles from size 10 to 13 and thread, including up to size 10 silk knotting cord.

You can use French Wire with multiple strand clasps also. Never worry about your thread breaking again at the connection point. AND if you are tired of your thread pulling out of round jump rings, French Wire is thick enough to keep it in place. If you are using the wire with jump rings rather than a clasp you will only need a small amount as you don’t need any extra for the clasp to move.

PLEASE NOTE: I include a little extra in each bag to account for crimping which sometimes happens. When storing make sure you don’t bend it at right angles. If a crimp occurs, don’t worry about it. Use the wire to that point, then cut it out and continue to use the rest of the wire.
